We are less than a week away from Flag Day! We are still in need of drivers, navigators and Scouts. If you are in town please consider signing up for this holiday. You are responsible for signing up for 2 holidays and this one would be very helpful. We all love our great equipment and high adventurous troop with a low cost! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BA5AF2BA1FEC52-49049011-flag

This is not optional for us to fulfill our commitment. Please consider signing up for a slot if you are here in town, even if you can do just part of a shift, we could try to make that work. I understand that we are all busy and we have a much smaller troop this year but this is how we keep our troop financially stable. We ask that you and your scout sign up for AT LEAST two holidays this season. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BA5AF2BA1FEC52-49049011-flag Please let me know if you have any questions Maureen Reiser 208-596-3115 Thank you

Our next event will be a Family campout May 10th – 12th, at Picket Wire Canyonlands in the Comanche National Grasslands just outside of La Junta, Colorado.
We will not meet at the barn as normal, but rather meet onsite near the Withers Canyon Trailhead to accommodate families and their varying schedules.
We will camp two nights in the grasslands near the Withers Canyon Trailhead. This is just open land and there is no potable water or amenities and only one vault toilet.
This is one of the rare opportunities to bring along an RV or trailer on a scout outing, but again there is no power or hookups.
Any families that might need to borrow some troop gear are welcome to do so, just reach out to Ray Petree.
Being a Family Campout, each family should plan a menu for themselves. The Patrols will host deserts and goodies for the campfire ceremony Saturday night.
On Saturday we will day hike down the Withers Canyon Trail along the Purgatory River past the Dolores Mission to the Dinosaur tracks and have lunch, then return the same route. Round trip is an easy about 10 miles.
Scouts that would like to attend solo please let me know and we will pair you up with a family for the weekend to travel and dine.
Sign up at the link below.. Please review all categories and sign up under all applicable slots.
The game night for this week is a Ute Valley Park scramble with Pinion Valley Park football and frisbee. Pick up and Drop off will be at the Pinion Valley Park pavilions:
Don’t forget that we have our Court of Honor Ceremony plus a hot dog cookout this week! We need everyone to sign up below so we can buy enough food for families. We will have some veggie dog options too. Please remember to bring the items you signed up for, and if possible, arrive at the church a little early to help with the setup between 6-6:30.
We still need volunteers for our Flag Fundraiser. This is how our troop earns a lot of money for cool trips and gear. We need all scouts to help out so please pick a date you can help on Memorial Day, Flag Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day or Veterans Day.
I have been on the Board as the Troop Fundraiser and Flag coordinator for almost 3 years. I’m looking for the next person to take my place and the end of this season. It is a rewarding position and does not take much time, other than the many emails you will soon receive The flag program has been the same for 25 years and pretty much runs itself. If you are interested in this position on the Board please contact me at fmreiser@gmail.com or 208-596-3115 for more information. Maureen Reiser
Flag Season is here again! We have a much smaller troop then we have had in the past, we ask that every Scout in the troop do at least 2 holidays. We all like to go away on the long weekends but we ask that you consider this fundraiser when you are making family plans. If you are new to the troop and would like more information about our flag fundraiser please contact me at fmreiser@gmail.com or 208-596-3115. Please use the link below for more information and to sign up for shifts. It works best with a Scout and a parent signing up together. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0D4BA5AF2BA1FEC52-49049011-flag
We have a lot going on this week. Firstly we will be preparing for the Penitente campout, refreshing on some of our climbing and cooking skills. We will also be planning the Game night for the meeting after the Court of Honor.
REMEMBER:
– Bring Church donations to say thank you and help our community
– Sign up to our various future trips
– Court of Honor sign up. Schedule SMC and BORs if needed.
– We still have open slots for Summer Camp at Camp Dobbins. Scholarships available
– If you’re going to Summer Camp we need to know your merit badge choices, so be sure to bring a list on this week
We will be car camping just outside the main canyon close to Witches Canyon. Directions and specific location details will be shared. We will be able to explore new rock formations, canyons, and trails. There will be rock climbing on Saturday with another opportunity to earn the Climbing Merit Badge. Bring good hiking shoes and layers of warm clothing because the nights can get chilly.
Previous climbing experience or gear (harness & climbing shoes) is NOT required but is recommended so if you have it, bring it. NOTE: You can rent climbing shoes ($10 for the weekend) at REI which we highly recommend. Get a size that fits tightly with no wiggle room. We will be providing helmets, a few harnesses and belay devices for the troop.
There’s plenty of hiking and hanging around camp available for those not interested in climbing. It’s about a 3 hour drive to the San Luis Valley so we will try to carpool to limit the vehicles needed. We will meet at the barn on Friday and plan to leave nlt 5pm. We plan to be home Sunday afternoon and will send an update on timing that morning.
For our April Court of Honor we will be doing a hot dog cookout! The troop will provide dogs and toppings, please sign up for a salad/side or dessert at the link below.
Time will be 6:30 to 8:30 as we have quite a few merit badges to give out. Please have scouts to the church a little early if possible to help set up!
